Riverboarding Lesson Overview

RipBoard's lesson begins with a dryland safety review including a basic introduction to whitewater. A demonstration of the proper position and steering techniques is covered with students practicing during the dryland demo. A question and answer period follows along with an introduction to the park's rapids and features. Once completed - the hard part begins - putting on a wetsuit!

RipBoard has a wide range of wetsuits and will ask for sizes (height, weight, and shoe size) when taking a reservation so equipment fits. Restrooms and changing facilities are available at the park. Total time for safety review, dryland demo, and changing into gear is normally 45 minutes. Once done, the fun starts - a refreshing dip in the cool water (oooooh!! hahhhhh!!) Students practice the basic steering and balancing techniques until all have mastered them. Most groups take 20 minutes to complete this easy learning curve with assistance.

With an instructor in front, students (must be physically fit and at least 12 yrs old) follow one behind the other as the group descends the rapids. Larger groups will have a second instructor trail behind the students to offer help for any who need it. Now you're riverboarding!

The 10 Class II-II+ whitewater rapids are spread out along a mile section of Clear Creek. A riverboarding lesson includes as many trips down the entire course of rapids as possible during the 3 1/2 hour time period. Each trip the guide will teach specific whitewater skills; most learn to surf by end of lesson. Advanced groups and repeat customers may have the opportunity to ride more difficult rapids as water levels allow.

As listed in Frommer's Vacation Guide to Colorado and Denver under things to do, riverboarding is easier than kayaking and more fun than rafting, within a half hour of donwtown Denver. What better way to spend a Summer day in Colorado? Get wet, ride a RipBoard
