Clear Creek
Whitewater in Golden, Colorado (at 10th & Maple) is a popular place to get wet riverboarding, kayaking, or tubing. Clear Creek
was one of the first urban parks constructed and certainly the most famous as dozens of communties seek to replicate its popularity and economic benefits across the country. Constructed by reinforcing the banks of Clear Creek with boulders and cement
it has ten whitewater features with several waves perfect for surfing a ripboard. Peak flows occur late May to mid June with 1,000+
cfs and Class II+ to Class III rapids. August is best for tubing or cooling off with just a swimsuit (check out the Clear Creek video) otherwise water temps range from 50 to 60 degrees - wetsuit recommended!
Clear Creek whitewater park has a paved path running 1 1/2 miles in total length and further as Golden has a number of biking trails. The most popular stretch is 10th & Maple (Lions Park) to the Library Hole. Open to the public (enter at your own risk - PFD and helmet recommended,) parking is found near the Golden Rec Center and Lions Park at 10th& Maple. Weekends can be crowded, especially late Summer with riverboarding and tubing; a weekly community whitewater rodeo is held on Wednesday nights in June.
